Course summary |
POLICY AND POLITICS offers a
combination of political science and public administration, focusing on
the interaction between political institutions and policy-making. |
Course description |
While policy and politics are
obviously closely related in practice, they operate according to
distinct logics. To understand these logics, one also requires different
techniques. Students in the Master's Political Science: Policy and
Politics are exposed both to policy experts and political scientists and
learn how to combine the different views in evaluating political and
policy processes.
During the one-year Masters' programme Political Science: Policy and
Politics, you receive a thorough-based training and insight in how the
dynamics of politics interact with everyday governance processes,. This
interaction is put in light of developments at the transnational,
European and global level and applied in specific policy areas like
security policy.

Do you want to gain cutting-edge
insights into mobilizing people? And how contemporary HRM can deal with
major issues such as recruiting, management talent, diversity, etc? Then
this is your programme |
Course description |
The purpose of Human Resource
Management is to mobilize people. However, this is not a straightforward
process considering the ever changing organizational environment in
which contemporary HRM performs. To account for critical organizational
challenges such as employee development, staffing, performance and
diversity, our programme aims to help you to develop skills and
competencies needed to mobilize employees in contemporary organizations.
The HRM programme adopts a multidiscplinary perspective in which both
micro-level processes (e.g., employee motivation and performance),
meso-level processes (e.g., organizational practices), and macro-level
processes (e.g., societal changes) are taken into account. We help you
to obtain cutting-edge insights into contemporary HRM within the context
of organizations and society.
You are in the right programme if you are triggered by questions such
as: “What are key characteristics of the changing HRM environment and
how does this impact individuals and organizations?”, “In which ways can
individual performance contribute to organizational performance in
today's diverse workforce and across different markets?”, and “What is
the role of HR anal |

Political Science: specialization Global Environmental Governance
Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
Master

Qualification |
Master of Science |
Field of study |
Humanities, social sciences, communication and arts |
Course summary |
Global environmental governance is
one of the greatest challenges facing mankind today. Global
Environmental Governance studies the ways in which environmental
problems are dealt with. |
Course description |
Scientists today see mounting
evidence that the entire Earth system now operates well outside the
normal state exhibited over the past 500,000 years, and that human
activity is generating change that extends well beyond natural
variability - in some cases, alarmingly so - and at rates that continue
to accelerate.
Increasingly, traditional approaches towards solving global
environmental problems (in particular international treaties and
conventions) have been complemented and in some cases substituted by
novel arrangements that are private and sometimes deliberately exclude
the nation state. In addition, global environmental governance is
characterised by the involvement of a host of non-state actors such as
transnational corporations (TNCs), NGOs,networks of scientists and
international organizations that attempt to govern global environmental
problems.
The Political Science Master's programme: specialization Global
Environmental Governance seeks to understand these transformations and
the way they reach beyond the confines of the nation state and the
international system. |

Course objectives |
Global and European governance
have been intensifying. At the same time, the new millennium has
also witnessed new forms of conflict as well as the apparent resurgence
of interstate rivalry and geopolitics, as can be witnessed by the new
arms race and in the increasing level of competition for natural
resources. You will become acquainted with the different theoretical
perspectives from which these international dynamics can be analysed,
and learn to apply them to topics of your interest |
